Multifocal IOL have special near, intermediate and long vision apodized surface to focus near, intermediate and distance visual images to retinal to give spectacle free eye sight.

Traditional IOL no such specilized surface so it can not give you near,  or intermediate  vision correction after cataract surgery. So patient have to wear near or intermediate glasses after cataract surgery.
